I have been offered this unusual penn reel , it is built into the handle of the rod. Does anyone have any idea of its value? Thanks

the 349 Master mariner is the deluxe model of this series of narrow/deep spool reels, which includes the 49,149, and 249 models. for awhile, they were bringing $90-125 range, but think the market saturated a bit so not sure what it's worth these days. the neptuna cradle is not rare, but makes a nice combo with this reel...in ex condition for rod and reel, I'd think it ought to bring somewhere between 150-200.

Brian, what is that underneath the reels? Enlarged photocopy of Nep-Tuna patent?

The reel came in three models 349 (single lever black plates), 349H (single lever red/maroon plates), and 349HC (duel lever black plates). The left coast Wahoo chasers love and covet the 349H. The 349 MM is one of the most modified/modifiable Penn or any reel that you will ever find. Outstanding quality and one of the smoothest reels Penn has ever made (my opinion). I never understood its demise.

Nope, sorry Rob, just plain old air conditioning system plans. My boss would get suspicious if I started hanging reel patent enlargements around the office. I've been able to convince him so far that all the crusty old reels lying around here are part of my grand nautical decorative theme.
