Edward Vom Hofe Model 621 4/0

Post by Greg D. »

Greetings! New Vom Hofe collector here. Recently purchased this one and the handle looks different than any of the pictures I see of this model online. Could this be original? Patina isn’t even close to that of the rest of the reel. If not, are there other issues? Thanks in advance!

Most definitely not the original handle. Wonderful looking reel.

Thank you, Bruce. I was fairly certain the handle isn’t original to the reel. Now the question is how to find a handle like the original. Any ORCA members who specialize in Vom Hofes who may have one available? Or is my best option to wait for a Model 621 parts reel to pop up on EBay or some other site? Thanks again!

It looks like a fisherman wanted a power handle. I have an EVH handle if it’s the right one. This one is threaded for attachment to the drive gear and measures between 3-1/2 and 3-3/4 inches long. I don’t have a 4/0 and am looking for someone to weigh in if it’s the right length for a 4/0 reel.

Your handle is definitely closer to correct than the one that was on the reel when I bought it. Interested in selling the handle?

As to your Vom hofe reel. John Elder repaired a tobique for me that needed a handle. He did that and a couple other interior
repairs. Only a reel pro could tell the diffrence.
