2024 Toronto Sportsman Show

Post by Paul M »

Some of my old reels on display at the 2024 Toronto Sportsman Show. I am helping promote my local collecting club the Canadian Antique Fishing Tackle Association.

Nice display Paul. Looks like some of the early and rare stuff there. Love the clamp reels.

Those Lasalles with their boxes are pretty darn cool, Paul! So are a lot of the others, too.

Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

The show ended this afternoon. Lots of laymen interest in how old these specimens might be. A few folks recognized grandpa’s reels in my vintage Canadian showcase. One fellow was impressed that I was able to instantly ID a Gentleman Streamliner and show him how to get the current market value via FleaBay.

The best story was not about a reel but a rod. A fishing guide from Sault-St-Marie came by the booth and said he obtained a Hardy fly rod in mint condition that is contained in a special presentation case. The metal work is inscribed in script indicating it was made for a Pope! He said the line guides had red (Papal?) seals of some sort and he said he was anxious to send me a pic to see what he has. We shall see. Could be a wowser, even if there is no matching reel.

Note the ORCA hat (and hidden T-shirt).

Great reel displays, Paul. Love those big clamp reels and I see a nice spike reel amongst them.
I think that rod the guy was talking about was made for Pope Pisces, right? :)

Thanks Paul,
there's another example on page 73 marked J. McGowan in Graham Turner's book FISHING TACKLE
The one I have is an anti foul top hat style like yours. Mine has no name. It's over4" wide and very heavy.
Thanks again for the info,
