Mepps Super Meca-Advise

Post by Ed Barrett »

Hi Folks,

I would appreciate some advise regarding how much should I offer one of my neighbors for a Mepps Super Meca left-hand model. Thre crank is on the right side of the reel.

I was shown the reel and it appears to be between an 8 and 9 on appearance and runs very smoothly. The neighbor wants to give the reel to their 13 year old grandson for X-Mas, but I have suggested perhaps a better gift would be a new rod and reel combo.

My question is, what would be a fair offer to these folks for the reel. They are very nice people and I don't want to take advantage of them, but at the same time I would love to put it in my collection with the rest of my reels.

Thank you,
Ed

a top quality rod-and-reel combo?

IMO, these reels are in the $75 to $100 range.

Ed:

I agree with Ron on this one. I don't follow the Mecca's closely but I sold a first model Baby Vamp on ebay that was in pretty nice condition and I think it brought around 150. The market is soft on these reels.

And I'm sure you know that Gabby is offering a Mecca, NIB, for 235.
