Catalog Page, Paper Ad for Montague Congress Reel?

Post by sea ghost »

Hello All,

Does anybody have a Catalog Page, Paper Ad or any INFORMATION like what year this Montague Congress Reel 200 yds was built?

info from generic reels:
Congress – a 1903 TM of Supplee Hardware of Phila.
Congress Tournament – Montague Casting Reel

Note: though I’ve only see these steel pivot bearings on montague built reels, please correct me if I’m wrong about this reel being a montague.

Thank you,
Sea Ghost

Hi,
The reel was manufactured by Montague for Supplee-Biddle. It likely dates from the 1920s to 1930s, possibly being as early as the late teens. The free spool surf casting reel is not included in Supplee's 1915 catalog. Supplee sold, but did not manufacture, fishing tackle. Many/most Montague-manufactured reels are stamped with retailers' names or brands. Montague's primary business was to produce reels for the trade.
