Reel recommendations for Fenwick rods

Post by ~JM~ »

I recently purchased 2 Fenwick rods from an estate sale & I'm seeking information on them.

First is: FS61 followed by: S
Second is: FS86 followed by: L

They appear to be in fairly good shape with some garage storage marks.

Interested in advice on period correct Reels to complete them.

Thank you.

They are both spinning rods, so the under-the-hand spinning reels would be best. Fenwick made a World Class spinning reel that would work well for these rods.

Fenwick spinning reels were outsourced.

Period? Late 60's well into 1970's mostly. I believe the brown Fewick's were made into the 80's? But graphite took over then.

The date codes indicate:
"L" is 73-74
"S" is 78-79

Any advice on suitable sized & quality spinning reels from this time period?

Thank you.

Many possibilities. Perhaps search 1970’s spinning reels on the auction sites. I associate them with the better quality reels of the day as the Fenwicks were top end rods then. DAM Quick’s and Penn 700 series (green or black) from my memories of friends that had them.

Zebco and/or ABU Cardinals would be a great match. A Cardinal 3 on the lighter rod and a 6 or 7 on the heavier rod. Comparable size Penn Zs or the later 420SS - 650SS would be great matches, too. The Dam Quick Champion series line would also be time appropriate. All those mentioned above are high quality reels from that time frame.
