I rather enjoyed the Reel Geezer's treatise on new reels. Those of you who saw my Shimano display at the ORCA Convention may not have known that all of the reels in the display were purchased new to fish with. I began in 1979 with the line of Bantams 100, 200 etc. right on up and including the Calcutta TE (for Tom Eidson) DC. Loved almost all of them (Calais is so-so). I didn't realize I had a collection until I was looking for something clever for the convention.
I agree with Phil that today's reels are likely the best ever made, but I sure have a bunch of old ones that spin forever and cast like a dream.
Is the TE DC worth the $500? Hell no, but is unbelievable into a 15-20 mph wind with weightless worms or other light baits. I need one or two more.
Happy Thanksgiving to All
