Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. I won a lot of reels at an auction and didn't initially realize that the 1961-2 vintage free spool Pflueger Supreme 1575 was anything out of the ordinary. After examining my won lot, I realized that it was a narrow spool reel. Pflueger never cataloged a narrow spool hex drag 1575. This one is going along my narrow spool 1573--another uncataloged Supreme--in my collection. The photos show the narrow spool version next to a standard version of the reel.
Nice find. I was also not aware that the hex drag Supreme came in narrow spool. According to Bob Miller, a narrow spool Supreme of the 1953+ era was available for special order in narrow spool and had the model number 1574, although there is no catalog evidence of it. The first catalog version (that I could fine) of free spool narrow spool Supreme was the 1577 introduced in 1964. This is the model with the star drag and the leaping bass anniversary medallion. In 1968 this changed to the model 512 narrow spool Supreme. I own one of each of these, but not the hex drag.
Is it just me, or whenever I see those fat rubber grasps I just want to rip them off? They are usually cracked up, but yours look OK.
