Well upon searching every single thing I possible could search about the Ocean City Free Spool Reel. This is a picture I put together showing you what year model you own. If you would help me out and post any pictures of boxes or Free spools that you have that are different and unique. I could compile a more complete article. I'm working on a several page pdf document about these reels. Any info that you might have would be greatly appreciated!!

So I've been searching old Newspapers by paying this $70 Subscription and I found this ad from Feb 1929 that pushes the Star Drag 1 Year Earlier.

Here is an early one of mine in rough condition and missing a few parts. I picked it up because its early and it was cheap.

Oh wow, that fella is only missing a knob. The Other Ocean City O is fantastic. Here is another ad I found which I think shows the little metal hinge they added to keep the screw held in place so it didn't get lost. I'm thinking this was a very short lived add on as it looked out of place on the reel. Bulky in a sense but Idk..
