South Bend No. 750 Model B Perfectoreno Help

Post by Terry Battisti »

Hi All,

First let me apoligize for asking so many questions. I have looked at all the resources here as well in my library and the interwebs and for the life of me cannot find a set of schematics on this reel. I went through the SB catalogs here on site, though, and found the first year the real came out as well as a 1940 ad in my library.

Anyway, my question.

I have a SB 750 Model B Perfectoreno that I just tore down and cleaned. The tail plate side of the spool shaft has a bearing on it that I can't get off the shaft. After trying a bit to get it off, I went to look for schematics to see if this "bearing" can come off or if it is permanently attached. I couldn't find any schematics. Here are some pics of what I am talking about.

The tail plate also has a fixed bearing cap as shown below.

As I stated above, I went to the catalogs and in the catalog they state the reel has an "all new bearing" that will allow even the novice to cast like a pro. I have included a June 1940 ad below that states the same thing.

Has anyone ever had this reel apart and did you experience the same or is this "bearing" supposed to come off? Just curious.

Thank you all for the help!
