Looks like a (and actually kind of crude) home made adaptation to me.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

It is an aftermarket brake system called the Kant-Lash made by Continental Reel Works of Evanston IL. Here's a pic of one in the box.

Interesting! :cool Still looks kind of crude on that Langley. Maybe it just needs a good polish. Is there any ID stamping on it like the example in the box has?

Tommy, I see these things all the time on reels and they always look crude - no matter what reel they're on. LOL

The Pfluegar Cub drag handle will also fit that reel and it looks much better. It is tedious to adjust though and is not something you would want to do in the field.

The Kant Lash is meant to function as an ABL device, not a drag.

Thanks, Terry. Although crude, it did seem to be a bit more polished than what someone would make in their garage.

Can't check for stampings. The reel is not mine. It is on one that I was considering purchasing online.
