I stumbled upon this amazing Gliebe catalog on eBay for $20... There is something about extremely rare information about fishing tackle that just gets to me. I just had to pick it up to share - Maybe someday someone that has one of these reels will enjoy this post. - Your Welcome. :D

Seems unusual that they would list only two reels and put them at the back of the book, behind all the rods, nets and other fishing items. Never heard of this company but the first spinning reel is a nice design. :type:

According to Ben's research Gliebe was the American (Brooklyn, NY) distributor of the German made Sportex spinning reels. The Gliebe 10 is the same reel as the Sportex Spin River & ABU 400 and the Gliebe 20 is the same reel as the Sportex Ocean & ABU 450. These were circa 1954. Sportex Germany later also offered a Sportex 55 & Ocean 55, which were basically just a different color. In 1955 Sportex opted to move their manufacturing to Sheffield, England. From Sheffield they offered the Sportex 55 & Saltwater 60. Sportex stopped manufacturing their own reels in 1960 but sold reels made by others with a made for Sportex sticker on them.
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)

Tommy, That info is awesome! So 1954 - This is probably their only catalog. I'd like to see some of these reels if anyone can post any.
