Unmarked Raised Pillar Reel ID Attributes

Post by leland99 »

I would like a positive maker ID on this unmarked Raised Pillar reel, and what attributes help with making that ID?
I found a similar reel in 1916 Pflueger catalog so based on the foot, handle and click switch, I am thinking its Pflueger...but what do I know?

I would ask others to add to this thread with photos and makers of unmarked raised pillar reels along with identifying features for all of us to learn from.

+1 for Pflueger, based on foot. Would be interesting to see the main gear to determine if it has the typical witness mark pointed out by Don Champion several years ago.

I'd say an unmarked Enterprise Manufacturing Co Portage Cascade by the foot, spring rivets and click button. Both Pflueger and Portage are EMC trade names. I think the handle is a replacement.
Here's a marked one:

Here's another, an oddball. No yardage marked.
I have yet to find another rp reel with the Peerless trademark.

Chapt. 16 of my book discusses some attributes usable for comparison, not for just RP reels. Sometime in the distant past, Phil White published a comparison of sheet metal reel feet.

Always had fun with the Portage on Stubcaster and slip-bobber when fishing with my (then) young daughters.
