So I got a reel in the box for only $26 and it sent me down the rabbit hole of what WALTCO sold. I even picked up a neat catalog which i'll be linking for you to view.
There are two articles about Waltco available in the searchable database of The Reel News. One was by Charlie Tanner in September 2009 and the second by Steve Vernon in November 2011. Definitely worth reading if you're building a Waltco collection.
Well I read both of those articles! Great work on those Steven K. Vernon and Charles Tanner! I seen they lived on Oakley street which is why the one reel is named " Oakley ".
Also it looks like the No.200 Aristocrat was never mentioned or known about which is cool.
That's another one to add to the Bronson Trade Reels. Mark B.
I have been down this rabbit hole. I was very interested in the "Rare Waltco Bronson Baitcasting Reel" when it sold on e-bay. Did some research on it and came to the conclusion it was not a Bronson reel. I had some other reels that looked similar and determined it was made by Lawrence Manufacturing Co. ( who were known to make a lot of look alike reels, per Mark Williams). Here are photos of the reel foot of a Lawrence reel and the Waltco.
I suspect the same to be true of the Oakley but would need more photos or an actual reel to support it. Still a very cool catalog!
Looking forward to your pictures of the Bay King!
Dennis Kuntz has some video on Lawrence on his site, 2nd Chance Tackle, good place to get some starter info. Thank You Dennis. https://2ndchancetackle.com/
