How does the Pflueger Summit 1993 Anti-Backlash work?
How does the Pflueger Summit 1993 Anti-Backlash work?
I tore my inherited 1950's summit down, cleaned and lubed it. In looking at the exploded parts diagram, I can't tell how it works to know if I got it back together right. The #235 "button" has an arrow to turn it clockwise for "ON". When I do that, I hear a click but the "button" keeps turning and eventually it clicks again. Anybody know what it's doing? TIA

Well YouTube put a video about a service and lube for a Pflueger Akron 1893 on my timeline and it's applicable to the Summit as well. He spent some time on the Anti-Backlash button. Turning the button turns a cam inside that gradually increases pressure on a spring loaded pin that puts pressure on the spool or something. The click I heard and felt is when the cam drops off to the least amount of pressure. I did some experimenting and I can confirm it does add drag (on mine).
One of the commenters made a point about the main shaft caps that I didn't know. He said they are not to be used as drag. Rather, they should be adjusted so that the spool just wiggles in the body. All drag is done by the ABL and thumb. That sound right?
