Friend is looking for an appraisal of this reel. I think he is also ready to entertain offers. (I just rebuilt the drag, it is as good as it ever was.)
This is a big reel - 4". The drag is a bearing ball that rolls over a ratchet plate. The drag is tensioned by compressing a spring, and the difference in wind and pay is the difference between the balling rolling up the ramps vs. climbing the ratchet steps.
These reels were sold by Payne, along with their rods.

A long while back we got into a big technical discussion about ball bearings and precision ball bearings. If you can wade through the muck of the following post, you'll find a Bushkill ad from 1947 I posted in this discussion (I think it is on page 2). Anyway, I remember the reel being sold by A&F for $27.50 each, that's a pretty expensive reel for that time. I think someone mentioned they are 150-200 now? Maybe someone can help you better on on that...
