Those red ones are fairly hard to find. You will probably use up the best part of $40 to get a keeper.

1 just sold on Ebay yesterday for $65. Prices have been going up in the past year and bidding is usually pretty heavy. I saw one sell a few months ago for close to $100 in near mint condition. Canadian

I saw a couple on ebay i've seen them go from 30 to 100 now i figured a fair price would be a happy medium. I just got the other red one the 1965 free spool with a box in mint shape so now i need the other red one the 1960 . They get lonely if you don't reunite friends. I never really understood why the girlfriend doens't understand that logic but it makes sense to me.

it was a regular freespool 1965 i believe. The ebay number was 7200441720. It looks like it has never been used. Came with the wrench and booklet and the reel looks like it did when it left the factory.

Delux '65

Post by el Lawrence »

The Delux '65 is harder to find but if you wait they DO show up. Good condition sells around $75.-100-130. ranges. I have managed to collect (a whole other story) 45 or 50 of them over the years from NIB to parts reels...(yeah I AM sick... and there is a support group)

They are rumored to come in other colors though few have actually been seen (Holy Grail stuff, you should consider matrimony if your girlfriend finds one for you). I have a "Champaign/Palamino" color one though it isn't marked exactly like the typical '65 Delux... (Thanks again LS) which is maybe one of the hard to find color versions. Would love to see someone post color images of some... especially the powder blue.

They are great reels but DO be careful if you launch into cleaning... the annodized finish is pretty delicate and scratches easy. Makes the really clean ones worth hanging on to... and the ones with dinged rims a great reel to fish. The '65 was said to have only been produced for about a year or so which makes the numbers of nice ones low...

BTW if anyone comes up with a GOOD replacement part for the nylon disc washer in the Delux '65... like one made of carbon or teflon or something I am interested in getting some up to modern fishing speed. It is the one part that wears and makes them not fish as well...

Just to clarify is the 1965 and the deluxe 1965 the same? or is there a couple kinds of the 1965 other then different colors?
