Its a rather easy chore, first you need proper fitting screw drivers, next dont use vinagar thats a acid! acetic acid, take off the handle , next make certain yiur screw driver fits the screw slots perfectly, then tirn as to tighten then turn them out to take them out the first turn towards tighen breaks the crud lose! Once you have the plates lose, carfuly take out that hard grease that looks like tar, If the Pillar screws are tight, find a pice of leather a old belt will do, place the rough side on the metal piller shafts and hold with a pair of pliers on the leather belt , again first turn to tighgten then back out if still moving hard, place some (MARVEL OIL) tm around the screw heads, and let set for a day, then start to take out the screws.once thats done be careful of the leather drag, if its hard and brital soak with (polmolive green diswasing liquid)tm. then when you get the leather off use a tooth brush & soap to clean up the leather, wash off with warm water and dry with a soft cloth being certain you sques out the water, We use a hair dryer to speed the process, when dry then we use a silicon base or teflon base oil to soften the leather! Now as We use pure 100% mineral spirits to clean the bal, of the reel, making certain all old greese and oil is off the gears etc, To get a nice polish after dry on the shafts and side plates we use ( METAL GLO Polishor you can use semachrome, most antique or motercycle shops carry it. If you find rubbing wont remove the green crude etc, get some brass gun cleaning brushes they dont hurt gun barrels so they dont hurt the metal of a fishing reel. Once you have the big parts done use the brass brush on the screw threads, now oil these threads and then use a good greese on the gears etc, we recomend teflon or silicne based grease I like ZEBCOs HOT SAUCE) tm . when you are done reasemble and adjust the reel to proper tightness and end play! Now go fishing! Your Ohio Conection On Lake ERIE Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG
