i recently picked up this reel and i can't find any markings on it.
Since i don't collect fly reels, i don't have any resources

appreciated. Thank's! USA Canadian

reminds me of a Gayle, but it's not quite a Simplicity. What's the metal?

Hi Ron! Its very light weight ,so i'm guessing that its all aluminum. its in very good shape, but i think that it could have been repainted.

agree that its been repainted. The reel appears to be copied after the Gayle Simplicity. Whether it was made in the US or Japan, and by whom, I couldn't tell you.

We ran an article by Currey Gayle about the All American lathe and Gayle reels in May 2005. In it he mentioned how mad Clarence Gayle got about the Japanese copying the Gayle Simplicity reel. I know little about those reels, but that looks like it could have been one of those copies.

It was interesting to read that Gayle manufactured parts for the government during WWII, only to learn later that they were used in the Atomic Bomb. He was quoted as saying"well, I guess I got even with the sons of bi-tches."
