Post by LEF »

Does anyone know the relationship between Ryobi AD4000V and AD5000V and Lew Childres Speed Spool Reels? Any insight would certainly be appreciated. Thanks Lee

After breaking relations with Shimano (c1980), the Lew Childre company turned to Ryobi to manufacture the Speed Spools. It can be assumed that part of the deal was to allow Ryobi to manufacture similar reels under their own label. Thus the AD4000 and AD5000 series appeared. I'm not sure if they are identical for I never bought another Speed Spool after the split. I still have five Shimano Speed Spools, and believe they are one of the historically important casting reels of modern times.
