I picked up a 4 brothers Surf casting reel. All it says on it is surf casting, i don't see any numbers anywhere on it. I was just wondering about it. i'll try to get a picture tonight and post the link but this is a new area for me. I'm just kind of wondering about these reels and ones like them. Maybe after i post a picture someone can tell me about how old it is. It is all brass and 350yd model if i recall correctly. Also what is a guess as to the value of these as i have no clue, i got it for a dollar. One other old reel in question is a 4 brothers sumco in the green and white box. Can anyone tell me about this one also?
thanks
Robin

robin...see if you can get your money back
Seriously, for a buck, you should buy anything that looks like a reel. these aren't high dollar reels, but if in ex shape, would probably go in the $30 range...trouble is, there aren't many I've seen in anything resembling ex shape! These reels clearly had a hard life, which is probably a reflection of the "Everyman" market which they were priced and sold for. I don't recall seeing any boxes out here, so if you have a Sumco in the box and it is in minty shape, then I think you have something worth keeping!
There was a recent dialogue/interest in all things 4 brothers...now may be the time to get in that market!

The Surf Caster is in alright shape i guess considering. It looks like it has many storys to tell. What would the best thing to polish up the brass be. It looks like if it were polished it would look pretty nice. Also theres some green corosion on the spool will anything take that off? The Sumco looks to be almost mint but i haven't gotten a first hand look at it yet, should be here by the end of the week. Thanks to my grandma for finding that one!

Sumco In Gunmetal Finish
The Sumco mentioned above is in Bright gunmetal finish not brass. Every one i've looked up or seen has been brass. Is this anything special?

4 BROTHERS SUMCO
In the 1936-39 catalogs the 4 Bros. Sumco was listed as a No. 2257 and 2258 both with bright gun metal finish...The 2258 was just a little bigger. I haven't looked at the rest of my catalogs for any thing else but can if you want...
