Penn model 286???

Post by Jim Adams »

Greetings.
This is my first visit to ORCA, but I have a reel that I haven't seen in the 40 years that I have been using and collecting Penn reels, and I can't seem to find any info on it anywhere. It's a Delmar 286. It looks just like a common 285, but it is about 5/16" wider. I've checked with Penn in Philadelphia and checked all my old catalogs and such, but no luck. Can any of you shed some light on the history of this reel?
Thanks,
Jim

Penn 286

I've actually found two of those over the past year, including one in a fairly beat up box. The 286 is just a wide 285 and, while Penn offered several of its reels in wide versions, I could find no record of the 286. It can't be too common but must not be that scarce either.
