Hi,
I have always liked these tin boxes that came with some reels.
Recently I bought this Kalamazoo Utility 1700 (because it had this tin box...), see picture.
Knowing close to nothing about these reels, could someone tell me this could be the original tin with this reel ? The tin has no markings or inscriptions. The reel says Made in USA / Utility 1700 / Kalamazoo Tackle Company (this is related to Shakespeare I was told ?).
Any ideas to age ?
I realize these questions probably sound stupid to some of you experts out there, but as said I have no knowledge on this stuff...
Thanks for any info,
Jean-Paul
Forgot to mention there's remainings of a paper that was once on the tin, anyone having a good and complete example to take a look at ?
Have been looking to find a Kalamazoo-collector's website but couldn't find one (except the Shakespeare ones just mentioning Kalamazoo).
JP,
No, That is not the correct tin for that reel. here is a picture of one.
I THINK that tin was a Hibbard & Spencer of visa versa. Merv Brotner will see this and give you a correct answer. As for the insert, I don't think i have one but is is a corragated piece of stock to protect the reel. The kalamazoo tackle Co was a shell company started in the early thirties to sell Shakespeare trade reels. They also had their own line of cheaper reels which the 1700 was one of the, All of them was made bt Shakespeare.
Hope this helps.
