Membership
I just got this email from a person that is interested in ORCA. But is asking this question.
"I am curious to join.. but why $30 for a 1yr membership ?
Am I missing something ?"
So I figured instead of just me answering this questions. I would put it on the board and let the membership respond to why the 30 dollars a year membership. Let him know and others who ask why we find paying 30 dollars a year is a very low price to pay for all that the club gives back to its members. Post your answers and I will email the answers back to him.

Membership fee for foreigners??
Hi,
I should have been a member long ago (sorry) so now I see my chance of taking the first step. Could someone please tell me:
1) Is the ORCA fee for a Danish Dane of Denmark also a mere $30 a year?
2) What payment options do I have (can I pay via internet banking)?
Btw - the Swedish membership fee for foreigners is $39 a year, making ORCA reasonably cheap in my mind.
Thanks,
Bo

Foreign memberships are $40 due to the increased cost of airmail postage overseas.
Anyone interesting in joining can use paypal and join on line. Just click the ORCA HOME link on the top of this page and follow the join ORCA links. Roger also accepts checks or money orders, as shown on the membership application.
If you don't like $30 per year, join for 5 years and save.

If your friend thinks $30.00 a year for membership is expensive, woe be to the fellow if he gets seriously into collecting. Like the monkey said while peeing into the cash register: "This could run into real (reel) money!" Bad Bob

Membership, foreign
Hi Milt,
Hummm... I might have lost my night vision abilities
but as I see it on the online registration formula it still says $40 a year for "outsider's" like myself.
If the actual foreign fee not counting Canada has gone up to $45 a year for 2006 you might wanna change the above mentioned accordingly
Thanks,
Bo
PS: I will have to wait joining as I don't have anymore paypal money left to spend (unverified but trying to be very fied

Bo, You are right, the web page application does state $40 and the PDF brochure states $45. I'm sure it will be updated and thanks for bringing that to our attention.
Membership cost is well worth it to me. Where else can you read about old reel history unearthed by some of the most amazing tackle researchers in the hobby, get updates on hobby events, make contacts to help your collection (and others with theirs) AND have access to a great library? (Soon to include a great loan library)

ORCA membership
Dale has pretty well covered the advantages; in my case being an ORCA member has helped me to overcome the twin problems of isolation and ignorance; I've been helped tremendously by a number of different ORCA members who have taken the time to answer some of my dumba** questions. I think the membership is especially valuable for those who are not able to travel to shows and associate in person with other collectors. When one looks at the cost, even at $45 USD for overseas members, it helps to remeber that that's less than the cost of many reels, and less than the cost of greens fees for a day at the golf course, less than the cost of entry for many sports tournaments and concerts, with benefits which last far longer.
