Alpha reels were made in Melbourne Australia, c1932-70s. They were inexpensive reels. The book Australia Fishing Reels, by Bob Dunn has the history of the company, and shows several examples.

'Fly' Reels

Tony--They have the UK look to them and I believe are of the Aerial type,
so called trotting reels, value not much IMO, maybe $35 to $50 max.

these are what you would call a generic "centrepin"

can be used for a fly reel or trotting reel, but are really sold as line-storage reel for dapping or bottom fishing.

Thank's Ron! I think you're right about line storage as both reels came spooled with 700+ yrds. Thank's again everyone for their help. canadian

They're also what Canadian west-coasters call mooching reels.
