Penn Sea Hawk

Post by Reelman »

I just opened up a box I had packed a way. And I found This Penn Sea Hawk. And I was wondering where in the time line does this Penn Sea Hawk fit in. There are circles with a K on the inside of both the end plates. And it has three Pillers.

Jeeeze Looueeeze Merv, what else you got in those boxes! From past discussions, catalogs seem to indicate that your reel was originally the Model F, one of Penn's first reels made in 1932-33 and renamed Seahawk sometime in 1933. Hard for me to keep track of dates and the latest so you might do a search of this forum. In any case, it's a winner!

I suggest you really get to opening up more boxes

So the early seahawks have a ball type line out alarm and a hex nut on the handle.

PS; if you get tired of opening boxes just send them to me. :D

Nice find yours is a 1933 SeaHawk it is the same reel as the 1932 Model F the F was renamed SeaHawk and your smooth round click and three
pillers plus the inside should have a JK in circle for Kuhn & Jacob Machine co in Trenton NJ who made the end plates all show its the early reel the next couple of years they started with waffle click four pillers etc etc.

Beauty! I'm jealous, wish I could find one in an old box packed away somewhere! That's exactly the pattern of the renamed F model, 1st sold Feb '33, as SEA HAWK. The smooth dome shaped clicker button predated the early waffle style. Still not sure when they changed to the 4 post design, best guess is '36, but suspect they phased it in on different models over several years as stocks of parts got used up. Presume it has the free spool integrated into the handle shaft?

The recent photos of the 3 post SEAFORD & this reel have been very encouraging. Any chance you're looking for something you'd be willing to trade the SEA HAWK for? Please let me know if you find another packed away! Hint. Hint. Nudge. Nudge.

Thanks for all the info and help. Now I do not know if I will put it on a shelf and watch it collect dust. OR sell or trade it. :?:
