Looking for ideas to make individual reel display stands

Post by snoekjaeger »

Below is a pic of one I have, it came with the reel that's on it (a Belgian Moulinet FN b.t.w.).
I only have a few reels left now (since I sold most of my collection) and would like to display the remaining as good as possible, any ideas ? I'd prefer the "handle" matching the reel (i.r.o. age/dating) . The reels I have are 1940's and 1950's spinning reels. I could try to find old fishing rods and cut the handle... (if the rod itself is worthless...).

Reel displays

Post by RAM »

Here is my suggestion (worth what its costs!). Instead of cutting off the rod, simply buy (or build) a wall-mountable rod rack and place the reels on the disconnected rods. This requires two piece rods of course unless you have very high ceilings or don't mind the reels being near the floor! I have two such racks with reels mounted on them, some are casting, some fly rods. I got the racks from L.L. Bean-with rubber grips and felt bases. Possible Orvis has same. Certainly Cabelas. These are two piece racks that can be set any distance apart to show off your reels. Will email pics of mine to you if you would like. Hope this helps. Bad Bob

Reel display on rods

Post by RAM »

Snoekjaeger-Just checked Cabela's. They have just what you need-several sizes and styles in oak for as little as $12.95! Just check their web site www.cabelas.com and type in "rod storage". This will work nice for you. Bad Bob

Buy some reel seats and mount them on wood dowels.
