I was lucky to find a Penn 940 Levelmatic MIB this week.
It was in a lot of other reels that I got very cheap (you don't want to know...).
Never held one in my hands before and the quality surprised me.
Why surprised ? I did see them on Ebay and wondered why they were being sold rather cheap (compared to other reels that is).
This one is in a blue box, top has a picture of a jumping Black-Bass, complete with papers, tool, oil,...
How's the fishing quality of these reels ?
It's not for sale, it's just looking to good next to a BIG Penn International I have, that's actually the only 2 Penn I got now. Gold allways makes a nice display...

J-P...I've had several and re-sold them, but have also been impressed with how smoothly they run and their overall quality. I'm thinking it's more a matter that the window of fishing covered by that size is relatively small...it would handle big bass, but would likely outfish most fishermen and backlash rather easily if you weren't watching. it's underpowered for most bigger salt fishing, in my opinion. That leaves mainly bay fish and trolling for larger trout for that reel and I think there are so many multi-use reels that will cover that turf that it kinda falls in the cracks. I see it as an upgrade of the old Penn 9s. ...but maybe others have different thoughts
