Milwaukee breakfast cancelled

Post by Jim Madden »

I'm not sure if it was the fee, the early start, the particular day, or just a lack of interest, but I've had to cancel the buffet breakfast. When it came down to actually listing names of those who could attend, the number was four. This is one of the premier shows in the country so I'm surprised. We could always meet at a local IHOP or somewhere and try to grab a corner area for only the price of the meal, but I really doubt that we could discuss our reels that way. I'll try it again next year, but I'd appreciate any emailed suggestions you have first. Andy Foster will put an ORCA sign on his door for a place to swap stories. My apologies to those who were looking forward to it. Jim

Breakfast

Post by Jim Madden »

No, problem, guys. I'm going to scout out the Perkins a block down and look at a couple of other options for next year. It's tough to do things long distance. Actually, Paul, I was counting you as one of the four!

Another idea

Post by Reel Geezer »

Jim: It appears to me that the cost of that kind of a breakfast might reflect negatively on ORCA. It seems to me that we would be better off renting a suite, with a member paying a regular room rate and ORCA putting up the rest. Put a sign on the door that it is an ORCA hospitality room and have free pop and beer the night before the show, and have coffee and donuts the morning before with a seminar in the room. Attendees could donate a couple of bucks and pay for the extra suite cost. Members or wives could man the room during the room trading and we could have membership applications, sample Reel News, stuff from the ORCA store, etc. available.
Just an idea for thought and comment... :?:

Geezer's idea

Post by Jim Madden »

I've printed your thoughts, Phil. That idea would work at any show, and it would be nice if someone would volunteer the job at each of the big ones across the country. It looks like Andy's room is going to turn into something like that at least on Thursday night. I was trying to make sure there would be no expenses for ORCA, and I don't think the donations jar would cover half the cost of the room; at least we couldn't count on it. In that case, the idea would have to go before the board, but in the long run, I'm sure it would pay for itself with memberships aand publicity. I appreciate your input and will discuss it with Andy at the show. Jim

It is a great idea and I think it will work out next year.

Thanks a lot for trying Jim,

Milwaukee show

Post by fostrart »

To people who are attending the Milwaukee show, I will be there on Wednesday night, and will post a sign with a red blinking light designating ORCA Room. I will also post my room number in the lobby stating ORCA Room. I will have some refreshments, membership forms, and some old Reel News to show any interested people. Its not a suite, but I'm trying to work a suite in for the NFLCC show in July.

Hope to see you all in Milwaukee.
