Here is a few others

Post by Reelman »

Here is a few others that were in the box. The first is a 250 yard Pflueger Oceanic. The second is a 400 yard Catalina. And the last is a 300 yard Pflueger Templar. Just wondering the date of the Templar. With the stop on the face.

Merv,

The Oceanic and the Templar will clean up just like the Catalina with some Simichrome, a couple of cigars and a little brandy, if you are so inclined...should take about 8 hours (each). Cheers, Alan

Templar date

The pop-up anti-reverse on the Templar face plate dates as early as 1924, possibly one year earlier. Not available in 1919. Bad Bob

In addition to that, the freespool feature came along a little later on these reels. I have not checked the catalogs lately but I'm thinking somewhere around 1930 or so. And if I'm not mistaken, along with the freespool, the pillars changed in number and position, from 3 to 4 and from 1 pillar each at 9,12, 3 o'clock to two each at 9 and 3 o'clock. Seems the intent was to make it a casting reel by adding the freespool feature and removing the top pillar.

I'd guess the Oceanic to be from about the same time but they changed so little over time, it's a bit harder to narrow the timeframe.

Keep digging into your boxes! I'm having a great time seeing what you come up with
