Pflueger 200 Surf Casting reel

Post by FISHSTALKER »

I just joined this site today with hope that some of you who are in the know could pass on some info to me. I'm a novice. Yesterday I purchased this reel at an Antique store. I plan to decorate my office with older fishing lures, rods and reels. Most that I have inherited.
Any history or specifics about the reel would be appreciated.
It has the Patent date stamped as Jan. 22, 1907 and under that is the date April 3, 1923. On the right hand side, the face plate has the Pflueger trade mark along with PONTIAC SURF CASTING. The bottom of the mount has 200 stamped in it.
What would approximate value be? And any historical info like number produced, etc.
Thank you

Fishstalker, the Pontiac was a pretty popular salt water reel made by Pflueger from the early or mid 1920s to 1932 or 34. The 200 yd version stopped being listed in catalogs in 1932. Unfortunately, the metal finish on most of these didn't survive well over the years. That all adds up to about $15-20 bucks for well worn examples (ie. corrosion, green, white or red patches and spots) but on the other hand, $200 for some really nice ones in boxes (either maroon in color (earlier) or green and white (later)). You can get a good idea from searching completed auctions on ebay also.
