I collect Gadabout Gaddis items. The spoon you mentioned is one of the easiest items to find. They show up on ebay pretty frequently. It was part of a six-lure set that was sold on the Gadabout Gaddis "The Flying Fisherman" TV show for $1 back in the sixties. The lures were made by the Al's Goldfish lure company of Indian Orchard, Massachussetts. These lure don't usually sell for much on ebay unless the whole six-lure set is there, preferabbly in the original mailing envelope.

Thanks Gadabout,
I have always wondered who made them spoons. I have a couple different ones and have had some plugs too.

You're welcome Harvey. If you have some wooden plugs that say Gadabout Gaddis on them, these are not from this same set. Those were made by the Boone Lure company in Florida (in the late 50's, I believe). These are definitely more collectible than the metal and plastic lures contained in the six-lure "TV offer" set.

Thanks for the offer Jerry, that's very kind of you. I've already got a bunch of them so I will step down for the next guy who's interested.

Wow great info gadabout. Have you thought about writing up an article for the NFLCC about Gadabout? He is in the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame; I saw a great photo of Gadabout in front of a Shakespeare airplane in the Hall and took a photo of it. Drop me a PM with your email and I will send you a pic of it if you are interested. Apparantly Gadabout was a Shakespeare rep at the time.

Cheers,

Thanks Dr. Todd. I have thought about writing an article on Gadabout for the American Museum of Fly Fishing, but have not gotten around to it yet. I have a lot of information but I'm also missing a lot of information. I guess I should still do it anyway. I just have to push myself to do it.

Yes, Gadabout was a Shakespeare rep from 1929 until the early sixties when his TV show took off. If the photo you have shows him standing next to the plane holding a map and with his foot up on the landing gear, I already have it. If not, I'd love to get a copy. You can send it to . Thanks!

Hi Rob,

That's it. Jaunty looking guy witha foot on the wheel in front of a red airplane with his name on it. Very coo.

Well, I can speak from a bit of experience, if you wait until you have ALL the information you may very well be waiting forever. It astounds me how much information you can shake from the tree by writing an article with what is known at the time. It will jump start your Gadabout research, I am sure of it.

Although I was under the impression the American Fly Fishing Museum wouldn't consider articles that weren't almost completely related to fly fishing...Classic Angling in Britain or Art of Angling Journal would be interested, I'm sure. Both are high quality.

Cheers,

Dr. Todd
