Bob: I got my copy a couple days ago and started reading it. It is very well written and quite a pleasure...I grew up a bit downstream from when you did, but still saw a lot of the "joys" of the age, including wells, kerosene lamps and outdoor plumbing.
Re the perpetual visitor that raised quail for a "living", if Tennessee was like Indiana, the state had a program where they would furnish the quail free of charge to people who would raise them and release them to the wild...I'm guessing that quite a few of them never got the opportunity to fly in front of a bird dog
Got my copy yesterday. Read the first chapter this morning sitting on the edge of my bed. My wife made no comment as she continously walked by me wondering why I was not moving from the bed. I will comment later when I have more time but for now I want to say what I have read so far is wonderful and personally moving. It brings me back.
