Winchester 2840i
Yo Fishingcraig-I know virtually nothing about Winchester reels but I do know how to find answers about them. Only thing that I can usually do right. Member Phil White ( Reel News Editor emeritus) has a published book on Winchester tackle. That's the good news. Bad news is that model is not mentioned in it. However, models 2730 and 2830 are, and that hints that your reel is a saltwater model of about the same vintage (mid 20s to early 30s), but actually a holdover from the Hendryx days (quoting Phil). A 2730 in Lawson's book went for $300.00. Another went for only $175.00. Having said all this I have left mysef open to humiliation. Sometimes you have to "plow up a snake" for some action! So get in touch with Phil asop! Bad Bob

Hello to both of you. I thought I answered this question last night, but apparently I pushed the wrong button or something and the answer is not here. The 2840 is listed on page 29 of Winchester Fishing Tackle. It was a 300 yard nickel plated brass/hard rubber 2:1 multiplying reel. All salt water Winchester reels are in demand IF they are in VG or better condition. The reel should be in the $150-300 range, depending upon condition.

Yo Geezer and FishingCraig-See? Told you I would goof up. But "all's well that ends well" (Write that down. Sounds like a neat quote I picked up somewhere-Was it in a Shakespeare tackle catalog?). Bad Bob
