Help with reel
Dear All
I have been trying without much success to try and find out who made this reel. Any help would be appreciated.

I have to agree but i also could be wrong...I would guess montague with a replaced handle.
Although i'm going to edit this now that i see brian thinks hendryx cause that was my second guess. And yes definetly look for the reel the ball handle came from that would be a reel good one.

I have several similar reels, but with original handles. The handle knobs always seem to be of bone or horn that has aged to a pleasing yellow/amber. They have a couple of trim grooves cut into them. Please note that the stamped foot, which is the Montague ID point, is thicker and heavier than the normal Montague inexpensive RP reel. It is a rounded curve bend, rather than a straight right angle bend. I had theorized that the reels with this foot were possibly US Net & Twine Co. before Montague purchased the company.
However, a fly reel with this foot was sold on eBay and identified as a Malleson, which was the forerunner of USN&T. The fly reel did have many Malleson traits as I remember. I joked with one of our members that I suddenly had a junk pile of old RP reels that were valuable since they had just become Malleson reels.
Steve or anyone else - please weigh in.

Help with reel
Hi Guys
Well, I understand now why this reel has puzzled me for over a year now. I must confess that I never thought of the handle being added as it seems to fit so perfect. It is a horn knob with no grooves I have heard rumblings of an early Conroy that was a five pillar that was sold as a trade reel to tackle retailers of the late 1800's. The New York makers Conroy,Malleson and Julius Vom Hofe all produced raised pilllar reels during the time that H.L Leonard's reels were getting popular and amoung these were unmarked trade reels. However with all the research I have done I have not been able to see any pictures of these old raised pillar trade reels made by these companies. If there are any out there I would reallly like to see some pictures.
