2007 ORCA Patch
2007 ORCA Patch
I am extremely pleased to see Bache Brown's Mastereel represented on ORCA'S Club patch. I have placed my order and I hope others will too. I have a question. How is it decided what will be put on each years patch? If there are any of Bache H. Brown's family around yet they should be pleased at his accomplishments. Great club, Great members, Bob Halver---->The Airex Guy

Since 1996 we have develop a new ORCA patch each year. We did not have one for 1998. Each year we try and come up with a different type of reel each year. Sometimes it is based on the part of the country in which we are holding our ORCA convention (i.e. Lenz reel in 2004) and other times it is based on a suggestion from one of our members. I believe this years reel was suggested by Ben Wright. I am always open to suggestions on the reel for each year. To do the patch each year, I need a couple of up close color photos and a sketch of the reel. I believe the vendor that we have been using for the past ten years does an excellent job. Take a look at the ORCA store page on patches and see the various reels we have used. Give me or any member of the Board your suggestions.

Airex Patch
Roger, thanks for the information on the Airex patch for 2007. Its a year to remember for me. I did not know that Bache Brown introduced spinning reels in the USA when I started collecting them. Since then I have learned that and much more. Thanks partly to help from the ORCA members. It didn't really dawn on me that most of them collected bait casting reels, until I was in contact with Ben W. I'm happy to see more ORCA members collecting spinning reels. Thanks again, Bob

Bob:
Over the past few years I have really seen an increase in the number of our new members who collect spinning reels. In fact I would say that over a period of a year, I see well over 50 percent of the new members identifying spinning reels as their primary collecting interest. A lot of credit goes to people like Ben Wright for all the work he has done early on in researching spinning reels.

More Spinning reel collectors
Roger, I absolutely agree with you regarding Ben Wright. One other person who has influenced me and others, is Milton Lorens. There are many more members in this club who have helped and influence collectors old and new. Lets all of us keep the ball rolling. Bob
