Looking for a non serial numbered 1740 to go with my FK and HE. No luck so far. Thanks!

Excuse me for asking maybe a stupid question but have you ever seen or heard of one non-dated?
I have handled a thousand over the years and nave never seen one.
And by the way, when you find one, please find two 'cause I want one too!

No such thing as stupid questions

I was digging through my email correspondences (unsuccessfully) looking for the one form an ORCA stateman who I thought had indicated that prior to the HE and FK designations the earliest 1740's were not serial numbered in any way. That was the holy grail I was after, maybe even holier if it doesn't actually exist...

there is an (earliest) Shakespeare Tournament reel without a date stamp.
It's not the same frame as the 1740s. I.E., I believe the reel is Shakespeare Tournament, NOT Shakespeare 1740.

Marc, we've been watching for this reel for a long time, and I let one get away on ebay last year.

thanks Ron. I knew you'd know the answer but didn't want to bug you with another question. That is one elusive reel. I have been scouring the internet and local shops since I got my HE and FK and heven't seen one. Keeps things interesting though :D

Are you guys talking about the aluminum framed #23043, which Shakespeare called their "Tournament Reel" or what? I'm confused here. Why wouldn't it have a date stamp? I'd think it would have the year on the foot.

The aluminum framed #23043, which was from the 1920's is stamped on the foot. The #1740, which is a little nickle over brass narrow spool was a 30's and 50's reel. DO NOT BE CONFUSED! I have a couple of the aluminum framed #23043, and I don't think one if them is marked but it is from 1924 I also have one marked Mod 1924 and it doesn't have the number 23043 on it. I also have one that needs a spool cause I took it out and gave it to Jim Madden so he would have a South Bend aluminum framed Tourney in his collection. Now I need a spool!
