Cadillac Reel. Does anyone know this reel?

Post by jimfordham »

Does anyone know anything about this reel? It's about the size of a penn 710. On the bottom of the foot, it is inscrided: Compac Product of ? (can't read it). I would appreciate any info.

It will be the first one you see. Click the pic to open the album.

Jim: I'm not familiar with that particular reel, but I've seen a lot of Compac reels made in Japan. The name seems to show up on knock-offs of Pflueger Medalist fly reels and various bait and spinning reels.

Thanks Richard. Upon closer inspection, I think the last word of the inscription starts with a J. So that fits. Thanks for your info. Regards, Jim

Cadillac Reel

I sold one on E-Bay a couple of months ago, Paid 5.00 for it at a antique sale and sold it for about 8.00 plus 4.05 shipping. It was in pretty good 8/8 ccondition and worked well. Hope this helps a little, Dan U

Cadillac Reel

Jim,

I have seen several Cadillac reels on Ebay including some with a half-bail. Most of the ones I have seen are full bail models and are gray in color. I believe your reel originally was a half-bail model. I say this because it has the same thumb or finger extension for opening the bail as the half-bail models. Some full and half-bail reels made by other companies were made so they could be converted to a manual pickup. I am not sure about yours. Ben does have them listed in his 3rd addition book on page 64. They were made in Japan around the mid 1950s and are basically a copy of the French Centaure. Randy

I have one, mine is light blue, marked Compac also, Japanese. Looks like a cheaper spinning reel, heavy freshwater, light to medium saltwater, my thinking is late 1950s.
