that reel is a turkey.

Last Thursday was the Thanksgiving feast at my daughter's school.
It's a big tradition there (private school - I think it would be a first amendment conflict at a public school).
One of the fathers dresses up as Squanto, another as William Bradford - they tell the story of the first Thanksgiving. All of the kids dress up as Pilgrims and Native Americans - they play games and feast.
Parents cook authentic foods and the kids eat with wooden bowls and spoons.
You sign up for something at the parent/teacher conference. Our appointment must have been inopportune, because all that was left was wild fowl.
So I smoked duck over pecan - the kids loved it and I scored big with the principal, too...
That's my wife and (younger) daughter - you can see I have plenty to be thankful for...

anyway, I marinated the duck (breast halves) in olive oil, rubbed it with TexJoy seasoning, seared the skin in olive oil, smoked it for an hour, then wrapped it and put in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes.

(of course I didn't waste the smoker - I also roasted cornish hens and smoked salmon - so we've already been feasting for days...)

Wishing a blessed holiday for you and your families.

best thing about using the smoker - get to sit outside and smoke cigars and drink ale the whole time...

Ah, you meant "fuel," not "foul."

Thanksgiving

Post by Tyler »

Q. What did John Wayne say at the first thanksgiving.
A. He said,"Happy Thanksgiving, Pilgrim"

Sorry, it's the only thanksgiving joke I know.
Happy thanksgiving to all and especially those who give of their time so we can share a few moments on this site.

:D :) :? :o 8)   :?:  :type: jump canadian usa , well back about 21 1621 that is, we all see pictures of turkys all coloful, and very large! Whats this? donot those birds lose their color about the end of august? only way to teel the roster from the hen, ifin the bird has a beard its suposed to be a male! Well as I can remeber about 21 , 1621, it was a wee bit chilly and damp, My trusty black powder muzzel loader ie blunder bell do to its odd shape in the muzzel end, failed me as it was a tad damp and wet and my flash pan went psssttt! no bang, not what was I to do! Steve and Harvey hadnot inveted the fishing reel yet, and those birds were FAST so the cane pole was not the answere, along came a Canadian INDIAN, and with his trusty FISHING BOW, and Fish arrow sent that Bird to the happy bird land! Well the girls had the hot water on, scalded that bird, then cooked it , do that in the open with a smow Blizzard comming at you, after sever hours, those Canadian Indians were a wee bit Hungry, they looked at the Bird, they looked at us and we invited them to share THEIR BIRD with US, Now people thats the way it realy Happened, ask Steve and HARVEY With A (E) Dem dare History Books are WRONG! Now a wonderfuly day for all you ORCANs and the rest of the world OUR Troops away from HOME GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and our Northern Neighbor CANADA! First, here's a quick history of the holiday, essentially an American version of age-old harvest festivals:
http://www.holidays.net/thanksgiving/pilgrims.htm
The turkey has no particular significance, but it has come to be associated traditionally with the Thanksgiving feast. It was only one of many possible delectables available to 17th-century Pilgrims, and it may have been one of the more difficult to bring home, compared with fish, deer, goose, etc.
