Depose means patented.
Very often French reels also have the marking SGDG, this means Sans Garanti Du Gouvernement, free translated meaning the patent was asked for but not yet granted by the government, or the same as Patents pending.
RU is one of the largest French companies, producing reels as from approx 1945. The first models were derived from the SNOP prototype. The man behind RU, RU-MER and ALDER is ALBERT DUBERT who's name can be found on the patents, often together with La Méchanique Halieutique.
So, RU reels were made by La Méchanique Halieutique in the town of Grisolles, LMH can be linked to other names like the SNOP, Doperr, GMS, MTL, etc..
The RU-Sport exists roughly in three versions : the 1949 model, the Ru-Sport Deluxe 1955, the Ru-Sport 1965 (rectangular body-model)
Other brand names linked to RU are RU-Mer et Alder (same as the RU, but made for a specific distributor).
RU is French slang meaning ruisseau or small river, MER is the ocean, RU-MER was the brandname chosen to refer to fishing from small streams up to the big ocean.
About Albert Dubert, this name may ring a bell... yes this is the same guy that is mentioned under the spoolcup of the MITCHELL 316 skirted spool
! Mitchell had the skirted spool design from Albert Dubert, one can even say the copied the 316 desing from the Ru-models (cfr. the 1st flate handle, etc...)
Somthing else you'd like to know ?
PS : I don't do values
Ebay shows those a lot better than me...
