Heaton Reels

Post by Paul M »

Here are a couple of old rimstop reels. There are some roman numerals scratched inside which may mean they were made by the Reuben Heaton Company.

Paul, several people on the board remove their photos.
it's really nice to archive this stuff away.
photobucket gives you a full gigabite for free - that's more than 10,000 photos when reduced to the sizes we use here.
you guys see how many photos I post.
I have used 6% of my alloted free space.

Thanks for that, I'll hopefully have a reference for you soon. If you have any more shots of the cage, pillars rear face etc that would help, as I have a couple of candidates using similar bodies.

Here are the detailed images for rimstop reels marked "X" and "IV". Looks to me like the larger reel is a bit older than the other.

Those are great thanks Paul. I had a quick look throught the late 1800's catalogues and I think I might have a match and these pictures will help.

I'll keep you posted

A pair of Reuben Heaton American Multiplying Reels

Post by Paul M »

Paul,
.. the two reels you have appear in the catalogues I have from the late 1800's and are listed as follows;

Model No 16
American Multiplying Reel
Sizes - 1.5 inch up to 3.5inch diameter
Available with reel foot (like yours) or collar style rod fitting.

Further American reel models are available in non-multiplying form, and these look exactly he same exept they don't have the "click stop" button and the handle is central.

Your reels are the only ones I have seen in this condition and to have two is great. I may be asking for some high def photos for the book at some time if youre ok with that.

regards

Andrew Race
Director
Reuben Heaton
Thanks for identifying these Andrew :!: . I will provide better pictures, in high resolution, as promised. It's wonderful that these reels can be identified a century or so after they were made... by the source!. Do you have any information about how these were distributed or retailed in the US? I find it quite a mystery :?: as to why reels of this calibre were not marked with names of the manufacturer or the retailer. I have several trade reels but I just don't get why they were not marked.

Thanks again,
Paul M
