MUD SNAILS in US WATERS!!

Post by SWIM JIG »

:( :x :?:  :type: I know this is not about reels, however having just read this item in theMarch 2004 FLY FISHERMAN MAG, it should be of concern to all of us that fish!MUD SNAILS FOUND IN BIGHORN ! these are rapidly spreading (NEW ZEALAND mud snails , that are nearly digestable for fish thus are not wanted in our US waters. Mud Smnails they claim are hitchikers surviving for long periods in felt wader soles, boat live wells, and trailer wheel wells! They are believed to have hithhiked their way from NEW ZELAND in the felt soles worn by traveling anglers. fisheries managers urge anglers to give a through rinsing of their felt wader soles in a solution of 3/4 cups chlorine bleach per gal. of water. The Mud snails have spread to seven western States , three national parks, and Lake Onterial, for more imfo go to www.flyfisherman.com/toc/. Thats all we need is another worthless item in our waterways! As Lake Onterial conects to the Great Lakes, all of them! it will be another zebra Mussel thing that polutes! Col. milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG page on this in the mag is PG 29

Mud Snails

Next time I go to New Zealand (or the Bighorn, where I have fished) I'll have to make sure I wash my felt soles. I wouldn't want those pesky snails in the lake out front.

:( :!:  :bricks: John, Phil, what bothers me is ( UNLESS a ocean boat that had been in New Zeland waters came up into (lake onterial) How did they get in the Great lakes chain? First it was lanphreys, then round GOBBIES then ZEBRA Mussels, and some others I cannot even prononce or spell, our government claims its balist water discharge, fines the ship ( seems if money cures everthing (ha ha ) and after the damage is done we here in the states pay the price of stopped up water inlets etc. And what makes me upset is that 23 miles away is the dept. of Wildlife and their man claims they know nothing about this! WOW ! I know this board is for reels, however if we keep getting these water problems we may not have a place to fish! Phil I CERTAINLY HOPE THEY DONT GET INTO YOUR LAKE! John, I trust they wont effect your fishing waters, as for Harvy, harvy you reading this? Salt water may kill these criiters! hope so, Fellows If you dont here from me for a while it will be that I am in the poky and cant make bond! I am going to be on the ONDR like fleas on a wild dogs back, and you can be certain Vonovich and Dewine our fed. reps from Ohio and Sherrod Brown will get a new rip ! Your angered Ohio conection Col. Milton Lorens aka SWIM JIG ps write or call your reps to get attention on this mater!

Man, Love those Mud Snails! Boil for ten minutes in
a quart of water with a cup of Vinager, A little Bay
Seasoning then pour liquid over a bowl of cooked
Grits! Throw Snails away and use the grits to rub
on that WILD DOG'S BACK! That should get rid of
those FLEAS!
Keep us posted, Milt!

Shame to waste the Old Bay Seasoning

Shame to waste the seasoning might as well eat the dog.
