A Salute to the Greatest Fish on Earth...

Post by Teal »

Young guy is making me jealous. Can't ice fish the Ohio River...now I have to wait until May to go fishing. Until then, here is an ode to the greatest fish on earth: the Smallmouth Bass.

They call you Smallmouth
But you are the pound for pound
Toughest fish alive.

Thats not a bad smallmouth Dr. Todd. I don't know if i would go as far as to say that the smallmouth is the greatest fish ever but it is a good one. I think the greatest fish ever has to be the trout. All varieties pound for pound they fight like none other. Where did you catch that smallie, judging by the boat and shore I think it looks like canada maybe?

Great photo, Dr. Todd! I tried to get your photo to load up automatic-like but didn't seem to be working for some reason.

Thanks...it was a nice fish. Got it at my cabin in Northern Wisconsin near Hayward. Seven consecutive years with a 20" smallie or bigger, with the tops being a 23.5" monster.

Long live Smallies!

You've got a deal! I am fairly familiar with Hayward and everything north and west of it across Douglas County (St. Croix River, Minong, etc.). But I am always looking for some sweet spots, and you clearly know how to get fish. So any advice is always welcome.

I won't be heading back until May. Will drop you a line then.

Thanks!

Yes indeed ! In fresh water especially on a fly rod wading in a river, have
to put Steelhead on a par. In salt, in order; have to go with the Snook,
Snook, and of course Snook.

None of you gize ever caught a Carp. Either the big bellied manipulated one (formerly) held in ponds for food supply, or better yet the even harder fighting native wild big scaled species of Carp :?: :?: :?:

Naaa... I didn't think so either :P or you would have mentioned it in here long ago.
FYI I would rate a Carp fight as the Tarpon of freshwater when comparing strength/fightability to weight/size.

Just my point of view on this... and yours are? :-)
