Linen or cotton period type fishing line.

Post by SgtMaj »

Good day all.
I need to find a supplier on or off line to purchase some of this line if still available.Do any of you know if any is available and where?
I don't know how it was rated.I've heard it was rated in lbs. breaking strenght and/or weave.
I'm interested in the 12 - 18 lb. line class to use with my old set ups.
Thanks for any info.

Jamie Maxtone Grahame used to list a supplier for linen and silk line in his Timeless Tackle sales list. Jamie may have passed, and the last thing I received came from his son Robbie. Not sure if he is still active in antique tackle or not, but he was located in Edinburg Scotland. I wish I had more information for you.

I have seen some classic tackle tournaments where folks had substituted braided dacron which is still available, and does not rot.

Thank you sir for your reply. There is a company that produces the kind of line in question in the U.S. It is the "U.S. Line Company" and produces a product line named "Black Knight Bass Line" in 8 lb. to 40 lb. line classes. The problem for me is they only sell wholesale to distributors and I've yet to find a distributor or get a responce from US Line Co.
I'll keep searching and post any results for those interested.
