In the most recent Nature Conservancy Magazine: A list is shown of the equivalent pounds of carbon dioxide generated by an average "American" (countries other than the U.S. in the Western Hemisphere don't have any "Americans" apparently) from the following activities:
Electricty, natural gas, creating trash , driving, flying.
Interesting notes for consideration:
We (U.S. Americans) generate five times the carbon dioxide as the average global citizen. The average global citizen is living at or below the poverty level and is incapable of producing the amount we do but wants to.
I am a member of the Nature Conservancy, the average members of which are college educated and wealthy by World standards (or even U.S. standards), and are the greatest consumers of energy in the World. It is possible a majority of its members drive an SUV (I don't, and am not wealthy by U.S. standards although I probably am by World standards but use far less energy than most Conservancy members. Audubon Society members drive twice as much as I do annually just to look for birds in a tree somewhere).

China will dominate World trade in no more than ten years, possibly in only five years if their current rate of economic expansion continues. They also will add 100 million to the population in 10 years (not my estimate). That will get them to 1.3 billion will it not? At just one car per family of three as a goal (we have two), that figures to 433 million autos. Hmm. But if they follow our lead, as Al says they surely will (they love us), and we use only electric cars and hybrids, no need to worry! But there are also those 1.1 billion folks in India who want to live like us too. And if we can save Africa from itself, there is another billion to buy cars. Hmmm! Don't worry! Be happy!
