fish scales , reels & wire wheel brushes

Post by SWIM JIG »

:(  :!:  :type: All this time I have spoke against power drivin brass wire brushes on reels! well I have 23 diawa 47 line counters to do for a charter Capt. these reels were full of fish scales, darndest (glue in the world to remove)! so I thought why not a fine brass wire brush of 8 in in diamiter, off to (Tractor supply and purchased one, back to the (dungen) and having the reel apart, I statred to brush the end plates, the reel is made of a plasict resin compound, Now things happened! the scales were gone, however that endplate looked like a corigated road! full of lines, yup! That brush was bras plated and steel under the brass Should have checked it with a magnet first! moral of this I told the captain, he laughed I turned red face and offered to repale the plate, he said dont botherm and came back the next day with a true brass wheel, no steel and it seems to get the scales off with no ridges, NOW dont use a wire motor drivin brush on your coletables, it will grind up hard rubber plates! it will put swirle marks in plated or brass reels and so on, it will take off fish scales ! And alwayschec the brush with a magnet! Col. M. Lorens
