Garbage Mouths

Post by Reel Geezer »

Yesterday I caught a nice 6 pound channel cat mixed in with my smallmouth and decided that he would make a couple of good fillets. When I cut him open I noticed a big bulge in his stomach and, as always, decided to take a look. What I found was a well dissolved gopher, I think. There was a skull with two long front teeth on top and bottom, lots of leg, back, and rib bones, but not much else left to identify him. I guess it might have been a baby muskrat, but not being a zoologist, I'm not sure of their tooth alignment. I do see an occasional mink, weasel, or other small varmints along the river, so I guess it could have been just about anything.

Now I know why they make those Gopher and baby Muskrat lures.
