GW crawfishin'

Post by RAM »

Interesting note on GMA this AM concerning total absence of tropical disturbances in the Atlanitc-Carribean this season. In spite of dire warings by GWers and NOAA of an exceptional hurricane season and the prediction of twelve or so hurricanes with up to six hitting the U.S., it now appears this will likely have to be revised. It may be September before such weather develops, still time to vindicate the gloom and doomers however. Reasons? A no-show by La Nina, the opposite phenomenon of El Nino, which is the whipping child for all bad weather happenings in the winter. Second reason, exceptional high level shear in the southernmost U.S. which puts the qui-etous on any major rotational development and related uplift (aka tropical lows). But the third reason is obviously Al's fault. The water of the western Atlantic, Carribean, and Gulf is exceptionally cool for this time of year. Global warming at its sneakiest! Surely some ORCAn is qualified to explain that by GW. Maybe it is because it is so hot in Idaho this summer and that the Geez only fishes 6 days a week instead of the usual 7. By the way, weather here, although dry (just my neighborhood is dry lately-T showers all around me), is really quite mild. On my trip Monday it was in the upper 50s just after sunrise. Brrr! Al! Do something! Next thing I know my wife will want to turn on the heat in the mornings. Repent! The end is near! Bad Bob

Well, he didn't want it known because he's a humble fellow and there would be natural parallels drawn with Jack LaLaine towing those 80 boats across Long Beach Harbor...but last June, Al went proactive on the GW issue.
The calving off of that 500 mile wide piece of antarctica associated with the Big Melt was a major concern, but Al saw the potential benefit, if used properly. He took it upon himself to tow the giant ice cube into the Gulf. This caused a drop in temperature in the entire Caribbean waters, thus drastically reducing the ability of these normally bathtub-temp waters to spawn hurricane-force winds. The downside is that there is now a new ocean forming in the middle of Texas...and half the Cuban population is dropping lime wedges and rum in the water, trying to get into the Guinness book for making the largest Cuba Libre in history.
