Notre Dame has a longer winning streak going than either team in the National Championship Game. Let's hear a cheer for BCS!

And then on the other hand:
Good morning Bob:
There certainly is controversy with this year's BCS selections. But don't let this overshadow the accomplishments of the Sugar Bowl bound team from Hawaii. Perhaps Brian is too modest to say so, but his Rainbow Warriors have a very fine team, and they are most deserving of their selection. Georgia also has a very fine team, and both should give a good accounting of themselves.
And as for Notre Dame, this has not been their best of seasons (on the football field). Rest assured, they are still cranking out some outstanding young people, and this is, after all is said and done, the purpose of their schooling. Having said this, the Fighting Irish will likely win a few more football games in the coming years.

I hope so Jim. Dad is 77 and his heart can't take too many three win seasons. I kind of missed him calling me up when my adopted U of M would fall. He knew I could come right back at him.
My alma mata is Central Michigan University who repeated as Mid American Champs this year. For that achievement they get to ride a bus to Detroit for the Motor City Bowl. The game is a rematch of an earlier meeting in which they didn't fair so well.
I was hoping they would get to play Michigan State. I love it when we beat those Spartans. It has happened a couple of times.
Ain't college football Great?

Football and stuff
Hello Dave:
Hope that your dad enjoys many more football seasons. My sister is also 77, and her heart is just fine. But then she isn't particularly fond of football, and that does make a difference.
Although I did not attend college, virtually everyone in our family who did attended either University of California-Berkeley, or one of the other California state colleges. And being a lifelong Cal fan, I have also endured years of suffering (figuratively).
And as for your dad's heart, may I respectfully suggest that if he would like to root for a fine "Irish" player, have him watch one of the best; Tom Brady. Tom is from San Mateo, just down the road from my home in San Francisco, and attended Serra High School, where he had some excellent coaching before going up to play in your backyard at Michigan. Young Tom had the opportunity to watch one of the Notre Dame greats; Joe Montana and the 49ers during their championship years. And obviously what he observed must have rubbed off on him. A fine young man, and a class act. As is his team mate with the Patriots, Tedy Bruschi, also a northern Californian, from Roseville.
Anyway, my congradulations to the Western Athletic Conference champion Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. I'll be rooting for them on New Year's Day.

Jim-As you might suspect I won't be rooting for the Rainbow Warriors as both my daughter and son-in-law are GA grads. On the other hand, I suspect UGA is not likely to have the OKLA attitude of last year and underestimate them. Should be a good game. I make no predictions and never bet on anything! Have a hard enough time dealing with things I have some minor degree of control over. Bad Bob

Hey Brian, you've got a great team to root for this year. I know all the Boise State fans will be rooting for Hawaii to repeat BSU's success last year. We hope the Hawaii fans will be rooting for Boise State when they play in a couple of weeks in the Hawaii Bowl. Our team had their choice of two bowl games, but chose to go to Hawaii and enjoy the visit this time.
Dave,
Your old CMU coach Brian Kelly has sure done a bang up job resurrecting the University of Cincinnati--taking them to a 9-3 season and 3rd in the Big East (and a #22 ranking). I fear he will end up as Michigan's next coach. Last year, Michigan State plucked Mark Dantonio from the Bearcats and this year I think Kelly will go to Michigan...
Will definitely root for Boise, Hawaii, and the University of Illinois in the Rose Bowl. Everyone is laughing this off as a gigantic USC lopsided victory, but they forget Illinois' coach (former Florida coach Ron Zook, whose team he recruited won a national championship last year) runs the same spread offense that Oregon used to decimate USC this year. They are not your typical Big 10 team, with the "three yards and a cloud of dust" mentality.
