Interesting little item you won't read about in reports of Al's awards (He just flew to Stockholm for the latest):
The Gore farm near Carthage TN is underlain by one of the bigger zinc mines (zinc in the form of ZnS) in the U.S. Was mined since the 1970s by NJ Zinc. The mine was substantially worked out to presumably an unprofitable point and was shut down, but was purchased not long ago by another company feeling there was still enough ore there to work. The ore for all those years went to a smelter in Clarksville TN. There it was processed by the RLE method. This means roast-leach-electrowinning (the latter is an electrolosis process). This operation requires a heck of a lot of energy. The electricity comes from nearby coal-powered steam plants. These plants put MILLIONS of tons of carbon into the atmosphere annually. It is reasonable to assume a fair amount of it went to refine zinc in Clarksville. No problem with producing zinc, and no problem with using coal-powered electricity. But Al won't tell you about the royalties that poured in while the carbon poured out.
And the beat goes on! BB

Wouldn`t that be considered 'public information' ?
